USITT recognizes excellence in both completed projects and conceptual structures though its specialized awards programs.
Since 1994, USITT’s Architecture Awards have public and professional recognition for contemporary architectural projects. These can be either new construction or renovation or repurposing of existing structures. Temporary performances spaces have also been recognized.
A juried process is used to determine each year’s winners who are given either Honor Awards or Merit Awards. Past award winners have come from England, Germany, Japan, California, New York, and all points between. A list of past winners can be found here.
Student collaboration is the key to USITT’s Architectural and Theatre Student Ideal Theatre Competition. Students work together to create a center for performing arts on campus. The student competition which pairs architecture and theatre students to create the Ideal Theatre.
Finalists, who have come from Poland, Spain, the United States and around the globe, are invited to each year’s Annual Conference & Stage Expo were they present the project and winners are chosen. A list of past winners can be found here.
