Introduction to Automation

This introductory level session, the first in a yearly sequence covering the major machine components, will define and describe the various sorts of gear reducers typically used on stage machinery. Topics include gear types, reduction ration, output torque, service factor, efficiency, lubrication, and motor mounting within the context of using a reducer with a typical deck winch. |

How to be Riggerous - Failure is not an option

The design of any mechanical or structural system, particularly those considered “critical” or where failure could cause injury to life or limb, requires the use of sound engineering and design principles, but more important it requires a rigorous review process to ensure integrity of the design and integrity of proposed changes after initial approval. |

OSHA Electrical Regulations Update

In August, OSHA issued an update to subpart S of Part 1910 of OSHA regulations. This is the first significant update since 1981. Instead of referencing the 1971 edition of the National Electrical Code (R) and 1979 edition of NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety Requirements for Employee Workplaces), 1910 subpart S refers to more current editions. These regulations affect you - come learn about the changes. |
