Open Mentoring Session for Students with USITT Fellows

USITT's Role in Supporting New Product R&D

Discussion of some of the procedures, processes, and methods involved in research and development featuring a case study that had its genesis in USITT's Grants & Fellowships Program. Mr. Gerlach will provide insight on the study that eventually led to his producing a commercially viable LED lighting fixture. Mr. Terry will provide his expertise as ETC's VP for R&D to the discussion. The session will focus on the process of R&D which is applicable to fields of research where the outcome may be product or knowledge. |

USITT’s Fellows, the men and women recognized for life for their truly outstanding contributions to the theatre and the work of the Institute, have selected Alexandra Bonds, USITT Vice President for International Activities and Leon I. Brauner, USITT Past President and head of the United States Centre for OISAT, the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians to present USITT Internationally: Here, There, and Everywhere, the 2008 Fellows Address.
Mr. Brauner plans an overview of USITT’s international involvement, and how to enhance our world participation as an organization with Ms. Bonds focusing on members of USITT who are making a difference with their overseas research, productions, and educational programs. Come be inspired to become engaged in the global theatre context.
After the Address, the Fellows will introduce and induct members who have been chosen as new Fellows of the Institute, names not revealed until the ceremony. After honoring members for their long-time commitment to the profession, the event concludes by honoring younger practitioners just starting their careers when the USITT Awards for Young Designer & Technicians in the Performing Arts are presented.
The grand conclusion will be the introduction and induction of newly-elected Fellows of the Institute, and the presentation of the USITT Awards for Young Designer & Technicians in the Performing Arts. |

Golden Pen Award Winner George Tsypin

This session will feature the exciting and innovative design work of George Tsypin, the subject of this year's Golden Pen Award for the book: George Tsypin Opera Factory: Building in the Black Void. Through a visual presentation, Mr. Tsypin, will introduce his work from some of the seminal opera houses of our time from New York to Milan. His "maximalist" creations fill the stage with an exciting blend of Russian constructivism, sculptural and architectural elements in ways only he has imagined. Please attend and expect to see the empty stage as a void waiting to be filled. |
