Opportunities for USITT Student Members
USITT's Annual Conference offers many diverse opportunities for its student members. All events have differing requirements, so please review the information carefully.

Student Volunteer Program
In exchange for at least 15 hours of work at the Conference, USITT will waive the conference registration fee for up to 100 Student Volunteers. Assignments vary from conference office support, A/V and computer assistance, Stage Expo special exhibition set-up and tear down, and many other opportunities.
  • Must be current USITT Student member
  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student. High School students will not be accepted
  • Applications are accepted on a first come, first serve basis
  • The Student Volunteer Program is full for 2012
  • E-mail monica@office.usitt.org with your name and membership number if you would like to be added to the waiting list        

Stage Management Mentoring Project  -- see those chosen for 2012

For the 22nd year, USITT offers students and young professionals interested in stage management an opportunity for a real-life training experience. Those selected will work with professional stage managers to help coordinate major Conference events. Students and mentors work together to guide the varied and often complex events. $35 non-refundable entry fee

  • Conference registration fee refunded if accepted
  • Be available to commit to be available from 10am Tuesday March 27 through 12 midnight on Saturday March 31
  • Applicants must be current USITT Individual, Student, Early Career, Professional, or Senior member
  • Application deadline was December 1, 2011
  • The 2012 SMMP application process has closed - the form is still available here for reference


H & H Specialties Student Conference Support
H & H Specialties provides Conference registration support for six student members who have been USITT members for at least one year and who register for the Annual Conference & Stage Expo before the Very Early Registration deadline of December 9, 2011. Students are chosen at random from all those who are eligible. Winners are notified in early January 2012.


 

 

Sapsis Professional Development Support
Students who sign up for Rigging Fundamentals with Jay Glerum or Hands-on Automation will be eligible for the Sapsis Rigging Professional Development Support for 2012. Bill Sapsis and his colleagues at Sapsis Rigging are providing this significant level of assistance for two students (one for each workshop) who register for the workshop before the Early Deadline of February 16, 2012. There is no application process. All that is necessary is for students to register for the Rigging Fundamentals or Hands-on Automation workshops by February 16. Two students will be chosen at random.

USITT greatly appreciates the support of professional development for student members which Sapsis Rigging is again underwriting in 2012.

Young Designers' Forum
The Young Designers' Forum is a special program which brings together talented students with established designers. After a juried assessment process, 15 students will be selected as participants. 

Those who are chosen submit their work for review and discussion with established designers and directors, and the work will then be on display to all who attend the Conference.

  • $35 non-refundable entry fee 
  • Conference registration fee refunded is accepted
  • Must be final year of design training program
  • Applicants must be current USITT Individual or Student members
  • Application deadline January 12, 2012

Young Technicians' Forum

The Young Technicians' Forum is a new program, similar to Young Designers’ Forum, which brings together talented students with established technicians. After a juried assessment process, 15 students will be selected to participate.
 
Those who are chosen submit their work for review and discussion with established technicians in closed session, and the work will then be on display to all who attend the Conference.

  • $35 non-refundable entry fee 
  • Must be final year of design training program
  • Applicants must be current USITT Individual or Student members
  • Application deadline January 12, 2012

A "Ideal Theatre" Design Competition

The competition poses the design question, “What is the Ideal Theatre for teaching professional theatre”? This question is to be explored and answered by a “Team” composed of at least one theatre student currently enrolled in a college or university theatre program and one architectural student enrolled in an accredited architectural college or university program.

  • Entries are due by November 17, 2011
  • Judging and selection of the winning team will be at the Conference
