Experience Frank Lloyd Wright in Arizona

Enjoy a bus tour to view and discuss some of leading American architect Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpieces -- and other area sites people often assume were designed by Mr. Wright. Travel to Taliesin West, in Scottsdale, Arizona which served as his personal home, studio, and campus for his architectural school.

Other features of the tour include the Gammage Auditorium, and time with a Taliesin Fellow speaking about the creative process. Price includes a Frank Lloyd Wright in Arizona book.

New Facilities Tour – The Mesa Arts Center, Tempe

The day-long event, organized by USITT’s Architecture Commission, starts with a comprehensive tour of the newly constructed Mesa Arts Center, a 200,000-square-foot performing arts, visual arts and arts education facility.  Then the tour heads to Tempe Center for the Arts for a sneak peak at the new facility before it opens to the public.  The Arts Center boasts a theater, studio, gallery and 17-acre Art Park. 

The Tempe Arts Center is still an active construction site, which will not be opening for a few more months.  Consequently OSHA safety regulations require everyone who enters the construction site must be wearing long pants, and have appropriate footwear.  This means shoes with solid soles and no open toes, (no sandals or flip flops allowed).  Hard hats will be provided.  Its a great opportunity to see the project in process, and it is substantially on its way to completion, but there is still a lot of construction work remaining.

The day concludes with an evening tour of the Herberger Theater Center and performance from the Actors Theatre of Phoenix. Participants will see Augusta, a "brand spankin’ new pressure cooker comedy about a pair of blue collar gals angling their way toward a slice of the American Dream."

Participants are urged to eat before the beginning of the tour, or bring food for consumption on the bus. Dinner will be on your own. Transportation will be provided.

Actors Theatre of Phoenix Performance and Herberger Theatre Center Tour

USITT presents the opportunity to tour the Herberger Theatre Center before enjoying a performance in the space. The Actors Theatre of Phoenix will be putting on a wonderful production of Richard Dresser’s Augusta at a special date and time for USITT audiences only. The show, at the Herberger Theater Center, is just steps from the Hyatt Regency Phoenix. Augusta is a "brand spankin’ new pressure cooker comedy about a pair of blue collar gals angling their way toward a slice of the American Dream."

Cactus League Baseball in Scottsdale (and other locations)

The schedule has now been set for Cactus League pre-season baseball in several ballparks near Phoenix. Our experts have reviewed the contests, and are recommending the games between the Chicago Cubs and the San Francisco Giants for Monday, March 12, and the Giants versus the Oakland A's for Tuesday, March 13. Giants Stadium is in nearby Scottsdale, with easy transportation and almost guaranteed lovely weather.
