USITT's Grants & Fellowship Program

USITT's Grants & Fellowships Program enhances the Institute's vision of increasing the knowledge and skills of its members through financial support of scholarly research and innovative thinking. Grants & Fellowships awards have promoted lifelong learning and creative development of ideas. The program is funded by the Edward F. Kook fund and the General Operating Fund.

USITT Fellowships are funded in amounts up to $15,000 to support research or creative activities in design and/or technology with coherent themes that result in significant scholarly or creative results. Applications are due mid January of each funding year. Within 18 months after receipt of a USITT Fellowship, a written report must be submitted to the USITT Office for review by the Grants & Fellowships Committee. For further information and examples of previously funded projects, see the Fellowships pages. Fellowship applications for the 2009 funding year are closed.

USITT Grants are funded in amounts up to $10,000 and are intended to support specific projects in design and/or technology. Applications are due mid January of each funding year. No later than 15 months after receipt of a USITT Project Grant, a written report must be submitted to the USITT Office for review by the Grants & Fellowships Committee. For further information, examples of previously funded projects, restrictions, and the application form, see the Grants pages. Applications for Grants are not being accepted for the 2009 funding year.

  • By January 31st the Grants & Fellowships Committee will give a first reading to all applications. By February 12th the Committee will correspond via e-mail with any applicant who is to be considered for funding to secure any necessary clarifications on a proposal.
  • The Committee will meet during the USITT Conference and StageExpo to make final determination on any and all proposals.
  • Notification of award(s) will be made during the Annual Conference.

Proposals are judged in competition with each other. Each applicant's record of excellence in previous work and longevity of USITT membership are significant factors in judging applications.
