USITT's Grants & Fellowship Program
USITT's Grants & Fellowship Program fulfills the Institute's
mission of "promoting the advancement of the knowledge
and skills of its members? by supporting research projects
that promote lifelong learning and creative development.
The program is funded by the Edward
F. Kook Endowment Fund
and Commissioners Fund (described on the Development and Planned Giving page).
USITT Fellowships are given in amounts up
to $15,000 to support research or creative activities in
design and/or technology with coherent themes that result
in significant scholarly or creative results. Application
deadlines are January 10th of each funding year. Within
18 months after receipt of a USITT Fellowship, a written
report must be submitted to the USITT Office for review by
the Grants & Fellowships

USITT Grants are made in amounts up to $10,000
and are intended to support specific projects in design and/or
technology. Each year's application deadline is on or about January 10.
No later than 15 months after receipt of a USITT Project
Grant, a written report must be submitted to the USITT Office
for review by the Grants & Fellowships

Eligibility:
- Members must be in good standing for the twelve months
prior to the application date in order to apply for funding
for USITT grants and fellowships.
- Individual, Professional, Senior, and Student
members may apply for project support grants. Organizational,
Sustaining, and Contributing members and groups of members
may also apply for project support grants.
- Individual, Professional, and Senior members may
apply for fellowships.
Review and Notification Process:
- The USITT office in Syracuse, New York must receive
applications by January 10th of each funding year. All
applications are reviewed to insure eligibility. Only complete
applications received before the deadlines are considered.
- By January
31st the Grants & Fellowships Committee will give
a first reading to all applications. By February 11th
the Committee will correspond via e-mail with any applicant
who is to be considered for funding to secure any necessary
clarifications on a proposal.
- The Committee will meet during
the USITT Conference and StageExpo to make final determination
on any and all proposals.
- Notification of award(s) will
be made during the Annual Conference.
Proposals are judged in competition with each other. Each
applicant's record of excellence in previous work
and longevity of USITT membership are significant factors
in judging applications.
