Statement: The Department of Theater at Brooklyn College is one of New York City's leading institutions in the training of theater designers and theater technicians as well as actors, directors, dramaturges and performing arts managers. The Department of Theater offers MFA and BFA programs in Design and Technical Production. The aim of the Costume Design Program is to assist the student in attaining the highest levels of success by offering professional training. The program consists of not only the vital academic curriculum, but also of intensive hands-on production work where what is studied in the classroom environment is applied to the real world of theater. Students design for the Department's productions including 4 Mainstage productions in the 488-seat Gershwin Theater and 4-6 studio productions in the 120-seat black box New Workshop Theatre. A variety of internships, loans, scholarships and graduate assistantships are available. Additional awards are also a vailable by application after the student's first year of study.
