| Statement:
Butler University offers a balanced liberal arts program. Areas of study for all theatre majors include production fundamentals and basic design in costume, scenic and lighting, as well as play analysis, performance, directing, history and theory. For those with costume interests, additional coursework is available in costume history, art history, advanced design, costume construction, draping/patterning, mask work, makeup, special seminars, and independent studies. Undergraduates are encouraged to work as design assistants and to costume student shows before being invited to design for the mainstage. Butler University also incorporates internships and a strong international component into its program of study.
