Statement: Otterbein College Department of Theatre and Dance is a program dedicated to the approximately 30 design/technology majors. Offering a BFA in Design/Technology and a BA degree in General Theatre Studies, students may elect to concentrate in any area of design/technology. Admission to the BFA program is by portfolio interview only. Students undergo portfolio review yearly, and participate significantly in five out of six regular season productions. When a student is deemed to have sufficient maturity and talent, the student may be selected to design for a mainstage production. Professional guest designers are employed on a regular basis, giving the students the opportunity to work with and observe a variety of designers. All BFA students must serve an internship of 10 to 16 weeks at a LORT theatre or as a design assistant for respected professionals in their chosen field of specialization. The goal of the program is to prepare design/technology students to obtain an entry level position in professional theatre or admission to the finest theatre design graduate programs.
