| Statement:
All skills and techniques related to the creation of costumes for theatre, dance, opera, film and television are taught by a faculty of working professional designers and professional staff. Curriculum includes figure drawing, watercolor, marker rendering, collage, history of costume, script annotation, costume construction (advanced students have the opportunity to construct production costumes) milllinery, dyeing, mask making, painting and distressing fabric. Students on both the Graduate and Undergraduate level have opportunities to design actual productions. Emphasis is put on developing organizational skills necessary for successful translation of a design on paper to the third dimension. Graduate students are required to intern professionally, primarily as assistant to professional designers or working in professional costume shops. Undergraduate students frequently serve as assistants to Graduate Costume Design Program students.
