The Herbert D. Greggs Awards promote innovative, in-depth writing about theatre design and technology in TD&T.

Herbert D. Greggs Award (highest honor) and the Herbert D. Greggs Merit Award promotes innovative, in-depth writing about theatre design and technology in TD&T. Named in honor of a highly-regarded former USITT General Manager, the Herbert D. Greggs Award was first given in 1979. The "Merit Awards" began in 1998.

The Herbert D. Greggs Award recipient is the author of an article in one of the previous year’s four issues of TD&T and is chosen by a poll of members of the Publications Committee and others selected by the Chair of the Publications Committee. Once a recipient is determined, the Publication Committee Chair submits the recommendation to the Awards & Resolution Committee who presents it to the Board of Directors for approval.
