Download the 2013 revised USITT Tenure & Promotion Guidelines.
A previous version of this document was published in 1987; it significantly addressed the area of workload andworking conditions. In 2000 USITT believed that a revision was in order. Theatre as a discipline was still relatively new to the academy. The methodologies of the discipline and the forms of research and creativeactivity fell outside the mainstream of traditional academic pursuits. While academic institutions generally embraced theatre productions as an important part of the cultural life of the academy, they were not entirely sanguine about the relationship of the creative work of design-, production-, and technologies-faculty to traditional academic scholarship. The 2000 revision addressed itself to the issues of process and expectations about academic activities and professional standards.
