Light and Video Designers are invited to compete in Tupac Martir’s Lux Festival

We are pleased to announce that creative visionary Tupac Martir and USITT are joining together to support up to four emerging and professional artists to create a video art piece on a canvas of a historical building in Cartagena, Colombia.

From January 4-8, 2017 Lux Festival will transform the beautiful and historic city of Cartagena, Colombia into a celebration of light, art, technology and design.

Martir has partnered with USITT to offer its members the opportunity to submit a three to five-minute video that will become a three-dimensional piece of living art when projected onto the unique buildings of Cartagena.

Divided into professional and student categories, the competition is open exclusively to USITT members and teams of up to two people for each submission. From these entries a number of pieces will be selected to be installed as part of the festival. USITT will cover housing and transportation costs to Cartagena for the top winners in each category.

Deadline for submissions is November 21, 2016. For more information, go to: www.usitt.org/lux.

The main focus of the action will be concentrated in the square mile of the Old Town of Cartagena, with lighting installations positioned in key places of interest inside the old city walls.

“USITT is excited to partner with Tupac Martir and the Lux Festival,” says USITT Executive Director David Grindle. “We are happy to offer our members the chance to show their work on the international stage and to get to work with someone like Tupac. Cartagena is one of the great cities of Colombia and the architecture of the old city will blend perfectly with the video mapping technology so that two worlds of art combine for something astounding.”

USITT, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, is a national non-profit association for the live entertainment production industry.
