Mentoring is key to learning our art and skill. There are several programs that encourage professionals to share their knowledge with the next generation.

USITT believes that bridges across generations help foster learning on both sides. As such we promote mentoring in many areas.  If you are interested in passing on wisdom as a mentor or gaining knowledge through participating, please explore these opportunities.

Board Mentorship Program
The USITT Board Mentor Program was launched in 2014 to encourage young people to explore board service.

Early Career Mentoring
The Early Career Mentoring program is for Early Career Members who plan to attend the USITT Conference & Stage Expo. The Fellows of the USITT have created this unique opportunity to establish a long-term relationship between the Mentor and Early Career Member.

Gateway Program
The Gateway Program is a mentorship opportunity at the USITT National Conference for students from underrepresented populations within our industry. A professional mentor from a similar background and career path will guide and maximize each mentee’s experience at the Conference & Stage Expo.

Safety & Health Mentoring Project
Provides USITT members with safety and health advice from professionals in live entertainment. Held annually during the Annual Conference & Stage Expo.

Stage Management Mentor Project
SMMP offers a select group of young stage managers the opportunity to participate in the running of large-scale events throughout the week of the conference.

Each of us has had a mentor professionally.  We encourage people to nominate their mentors for the Wally Russell Professional Mentoring Award to recognize the impact those individuals have on people throughout their career. Please consider nominating someone to recognize their gifts to you and others.
