Election Process & Nominating Committee

The Committee

The Nominations Committee meets during the Annual Conference & Stage Expo each year to select candidates for officers and Directors at Large. These positions are described fully on The Officers of USITT page and in the By-Laws.

The committee's charge is to develop a slate of qualified candidates for USITT's leadership. The committee is chaired by the Immediate Past President and includes other designated Officers and representatives from a diverse cross-section of the membership. Board members serve as volunteers but may receive modest reimbursement for non-Conference travel expenses.

The Election Process

The election process spans the entire year. The major steps and the dates for the 2008/2009 cycle are listed below. Details about how to nominate candidates and how to petition to add names to the announced slate follow.

  • February 1, 2008 - nomination process opens for 2008/2009 cycle
  • March 1, 2008 - deadline for nominations from members
  • March, 2008 - the nominations committee reviews potential candidates during the annual conference
  • April - August, 2008 - candidates are contacted
  • September 1, 2008 - slate announced and petitions for additions accepted
  • October 15, 2008 - petition deadline
  • November and December ? electronic ballots are available online
  • January, 2009 - election results announced
  • February 1, 2009 - nomination process opens for 2009/2010 cycle
  • March 1, 2009 - deadline for nominations from members
  • March, 2009 - the nominations committee reviews potential candidates during the annual conference
  • April - August, 2009 - candidates are contacted
  • September 1, 2009 - slate announced for 2009/2010 cycle

Nominations: The committee welcomes nominations from members between February 1 and March 1 each year. A nomination form in PDF format for the 2008/2009 cycle is available here. Nominations are sent to the Chair of the Nominations Committee. The March 1 deadline is also posted on the USITT calendar.

Petitions: After the slate has been announced at the beginning of September, members may petition to add names to the ballot. The petition form for the 2008/2009 cycle, which includes guidelines for petitions, will be available in PDF format in September 2008. Petitions must be received before October 15, 2008.
