The journal for design, production and technology professionals in the performing arts and entertainment industry.

Editorial Focus   Theatre Design & Technology (TD&T) is published quarterly by United States Institute for Theatre Technology, Inc. Its editorial focus covers USITT's ten interest areas: architecture, costume design and technology, education, engineering, health and safety, lighting, management, scene design, sound design, and technical production.

Advertising   TD&T is the entertainment periodical most frequently read by individual USITT members, according to a recent survey conducted by Knowledge Systems & Research. These members, most of whom are involved in purchasing decisions, are technical directors, lighting designers and technicians, costume designers and technicians, scenic designers, stagehands, scene shop managers, operations managers, properties craftspeople, consultants, sound designers and technicians, and architects, as well as key personnel in performing arts and entertainment related businesses. USITT's current media guide (available as a downloadable PDF file) contains complete information about the many opportunities available to advertise in TD&T and USITT's other periodicals. For more information, please contact Michelle Smith, USITT Membership and Ad Sales Manager.

Subscriptions   A subscription to TD&T is just one of the many benefits of belonging to USITT. Becoming a member is easy and can be done online. Special subscriptions are available to libraries. Please contact the USITT office for more information.

Archives and
Back Issues
As each issue of TD&T is published, digital copies of articles are posted on the USITT Members-only Web site. USITT members may download articles, for free, for their personal use and for instructional purposes. (Adobe Acrobat Reader software required.) Non-members are asked to purchase back issues.

Back issues of TD&T, when available, may be purchased from the USITT office.

Index   To facilitate research, a complete, searchable online index of TD&T articles is available to the public. As articles are posted in the digital archives, they are linked to citations in the indexes. USITT encourages the use of the TD&T digital archives and the wealth of knowledge it contains for research and for limited instructional purposes. Any commercial use of these electronic files is prohibited without written permission from USITT. Please contact the editor.

Letters to the Editor   TD&T welcomes reader comments and suggestions. When writing, please include complete contact information (name, address, phone, e-mail, etc.) We publish as many letters as possible and sometimes find it necessary to edit for length. Please send your correspondence to the editorial office.

Writing Articles   TD&T is always looking for exciting and interesting articles. If you have an idea for an article, we'd be interested in hearing about it. Our writers guidelines are available online and can be mailed to you upon request. A Juried Section of TD&T is available for our academic members who wish to have their articles judged by a jury of academic peers according to the rigorous standards of scholarly publications. A copy of the submission guidelines for juried articles is available from the USITT office.

Book Reviews   Reviews of books relevant to theatrical design and technology are an integral part of TD&T. Readers interested in reviewing books are encouraged to contact the book review editor, Arnold Wengrow. For a list of the books currently received by TD&T and available for reviewing, please consult the book reviews page. Publishers are welcome to send publicity materials and/or review copies to the TD&T editorial office.

Awards   The Herbert D. Greggs Award and the Herbert D. Greggs Merit Awards are given to promote innovative, in-depth writing in the area of theatre design and technology by annually recognizing the authors of outstanding articles published in TD&T. The first Greggs Awards were presented in 1979.
