Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts (www.performingarts.vt.edu/) seeks applications for Assistant Professor of Scenic Design (tenure-track) in our tutorial-based program, emphasizing traditional and emerging technologies.  We seek an artist who will maintain a national profile and teach graduate and undergraduate students in scenic design, artistry, properties and related crafts, with a hands-on approach. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities include: design and/or supervise scenic and properties design for productions; teach graduate and undergraduate courses; serve as primary advisor for scenic and properties design projects and theses; maintain a national profile and research portfolio suited to the candidate’s expertise; recruit students; serve on school and university committees; and additional duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications: MFA in scene design; professional and academic experience; proficiency in scenic art, properties, CAD drafting, computer rendering, and model making; ability to work at heights, lift 50lbs; valid driver’s license.

 

Preferred Qualifications: membership in United Scenic Artists and USITT; teaching, recruitment, and supervision experience in a graduate program; experience in projection, film, and television design.
