The University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance in the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track appointment as Technical Director beginning Fall semester, 2019. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate technical production and graduate technical direction and serve as the Technical Director for the school at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will collaborate with student and faculty designers, professional staff, and graduate teaching assistants in producing challenging academic-year and summer seasons. The successful candidate will also teach graduate classes in technical direction including: materials and methods, CADD, rigging, stage machinery, and production planning. Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to: mentoring and supervising graduate technical direction students and interested undergraduates; recruiting undergraduate and graduate production students; working with the Production Manager in planning schedules, budgets, space and stage usage; and ensuring proper student training in the use of equipment and safety practices.
Additional summer employment opportunities may be available with the Houston Shakespeare Festival.

: MFA with a minimum of 3 years academic experience preferred, equivalent professional experience considered. Demonstrated proficiency in teaching, production planning, safety, budget management, rigging, carpentry, and metalworking skills required.
