eSET Testing to Begin Mid-January

The eSET program will offer the first online exams next month for basic skills testing in three areas: Rigging, Lighting and Electrics, and Costuming. The first practical tests in these areas will be held at USITT 2016 in Salt Lake City, and the first eSET certificiates issued at the Conference for those who pass both tests.

eSET is aimed at establishing essential skills sets for entry-level workers in technical fields of the entertainment industry.

The goal is to give employers and supervisors confidence that someone who has an eSET certificate is familiar with basic skills, terminology, and knowledge in an identified subject. In the next couple of years, eSET will add online and practical tests in other disciplines including sound, multimedia/projection, properties/set dressing, staging/scenic fabrication, and more.
