The Penn State School of Theatre invites applicants for a full time (standing appointment), 12 month Associate Technical Director Position to lead the Scene Shop. The Associate Technical Director will work closely and collaborate with the Technical Director in planning and executing all scenic elements for productions at the School of Theatre and other special projects.

Duties include managing daily operations for the School of Theatre Scene Shop, procuring materials and supplies, providing drafting and tech design expertise for all productions and projects, along with assisting in construction, load-in and strike of all scenic elements. They will work closely with students and faculty to ensure that physical productions are engineered, built, installed and presented with a mind toward fiscal responsibility, aesthetic integrity and with regard to maintaining a safe and collaborative working environment for all. This individual will also oversee all student and over hire labor in the shop.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of experience in a related field, (BFA or MFA in Technical Direction preferred). Individual should have strong knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft office suite, be able to manage a crew, and have experience in steel and wood construction techniques, theatrical rigging, and automation systems. Individual must hold valid driver’s license, be able to lift 50lbs and be willing to work nights and weekends as required
