The Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University seeks a 12-month, full-time staff member to serve as Scenic and Lighting Shop Supervisor. The new hire will be responsible for supervising students and activities in the Theatre Center Scene Shop and Theatre Center performance spaces and acting as Lead Carpenter when assigned by the Technical Director on all departmental productions. Expectations will include maintenance and organization of scene shop equipment, supervision of Stagecraft class labs, maintenance of Theatre Center production equipment for daily use, function as Lead Carpenter in the Theatre Center Scene Shop and as needed in the Performing Arts Center Scene Shop, and participation in load-in and strike as needed for all departmental productions. It is essential that the Scenic and Lighting Shop Supervisor leads with care, positivity, creative problem solving, and intentionality to provide a quality learning experience for all students. This staff position includes an opportunity to teach one section of the Stagecraft and Lighting course each semester (including summer session) for an additional fee.
• Bachelor’s degree in theatre or commensurate experience in the performing arts or a related construction field
• Expertise with standard carpentry tools
• Ability to MIG weld
• Ability to read construction drafting plates and light plots
• Experience with theatrical lighting systems and technologies
• Ability to manage and supervise crews in multiple spaces
• Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs and be comfortable working on ladders and lifts
