Technical Director, Instructional Lab Specialist – School of Theatre & Music
The School of Theatre and Music at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a Technical Director with strong teaching skills for a full-time, nine-month position beginning August 16, 2020. Responsibilities: manage technical aspects of a quickly growing theatre program including: negotiating the scope of scenery for UIC productions; providing working drawings for construction; managing and staying on budgets and build schedules; managing student build and run crews; hiring and supervising scene shop over-hire; maintaining shop infrastructure, inventory, and equipment; enforcing and maintaining standard workplace health and safety practices. Will teach technical theatre practicum, may teach in an area of technical theatre or design expertise. Salary competitive/commensurate with experience/qualifications. Deadline: 2/18/20. Minimum qualifications: bachelor’s degree in theatre, or equivalent professional experience; a minimum of two years’ experience in an arts laboratory setting; one-year experience teaching at the college level or equivalent; five years professional experience in scenery construction techniques, theatrical rigging, and/or automation; advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD or Vectorworks Preferred qualifications: master’s degree; knowledge of metal working tools and welding techniques; advanced knowledge of theatrical rigging techniques, including counterweight and hemp fly systems UIC is EOE/AA.
