Technical Director - Theatre and Dance
The Millikin University Department of Theatre and Dance is accepting applications for a full-time Technical Director to begin immediately. Millikin is a small, private, liberal arts institution of approximately 2000 students located in Decatur, Illinois. The nationally recognized School of Theatre and Dance is a vibrant and highly visible component of the campus community serving 260 students in five-degree programs including BFAs in Acting, Musical Theatre, Design and Production, and Stage Management, and a BA in Theatre and Performance Studies. Responsibilities for this position include generating working drawings and budget estimations for the construction of all scenery and instructing and overseeing students and staff in the construction, installation, and strike of all scenery, including the safe use of all necessary tools and equipment. The technical director may also teach one-to-two classes per academic year. The successful candidate will have knowledge of, and experience in all aspects of scenic construction, welding, rigging, and computer-aided drafting. The School of Theatre and Dance produces in multiple venues, including the brand new $29-million Center for Theatre and Dance. Minimum requirements include an MFA in Theatre, Fine Arts, or related field (or BA/BFA with equivalent professional experience.) The Technical Director works on six productions each season and must be highly collaborative and able to work within a fast-paced schedule.
