Summary

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts in the College of Liberal Arts at Mount St. Mary’s University invites excellent candidates to apply for a full-time appointment as Instructor of Theatre/Technical Director of the Delaplaine Fine Arts Center. Mount St. Mary’s is a Catholic university of 2100 students with a strong liberal arts core curriculum. The position is a full-time, non-tenure track position. The initial contract is for three years, with the possibility of renewal.

Duties of the position include set construction, technical direction, and supervision of lighting and audio for all productions held at the Delaplaine Fine Arts Center, including Mainstage theatre productions. Opportunities exist to teach courses in Theatre Design and Technology when available and appropriate, based upon the applicant’s training and expertise. Opportunities also exist to teach within the university’s liberal arts Core Curriculum, depending on the successful applicant’s background and experience. The Technical Director will also oversee training of student assistants, assist the Department Chair and Director of Conferences and Special Programs in scheduling of internal and external events in the facility, and fulfill other appropriate duties as required.

Requirements

The successful candidate should possess a minimum of a Master of Arts degree and appropriate professional theatrical experience as noted above. An applicant with a Bachelor of Arts degree and significant professional experience may also apply for this position. The candidate is expected to maintain a working knowledge of all theatre systems, possess the ability to design lighting, and sound for a variety of situations, work within budget, and organize and maintain theatre facilities and equipment. A demonstrated willingness to work with department faculty and students in congenial and professional manner is essential.
