Summary

The Theatre Department at Albion College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Scenic Design, with possible renewal and/or conversion to tenure-track, beginning August 2021. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to a campus climate that supports equity and diversity.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have an MFA in Scenic Design (or closely related discipline) and a significant professional resume and/or collegiate teaching experience. We seek a colleague who is a teaching artist in the purest sense and committed to teaching in a liberal arts college with a diverse student body. They will be equal parts creator and mentor, as comfortable in front of a lecture class as they are managing a scenic crew in tech rehearsals. This is an opportunity to be a core creative faculty member in a rapidly growing department. This position will be expected to teach a 3/3 load in subjects such as Basic Design Theory, Introductory Scenic Design, Scenic Painting, Props Construction, Introduction to Theatre, and other personal areas of expertise. Graphic Design experience is a plus. Design responsibilities include all scenic and properties elements for four main-stage productions per academic year (two proscenium and two black box). Course releases will be granted for design work. Candidates may also contribute occasional interdisciplinary classes to the wider college community.
