Cincinnati Opera Announces Internship Opportunities

Cincinnati Opera announces internship opportunities for its summer festival season.

Two lighting internships are available. Experience with Vectorworks, Lightwright, and Microsoft Office is required. A basic knowledge or better of music is recommended. The interns will assist the lighting director and associate lighting designer production notes and assignments as well as assisting in calling focus, creation of followspot sheets and followspot instruction during rehearsals, tracking, and coordination of cue placements with stage management and other departments, tracking of lighting and electric expenditures, coordination of lighting meetings and schedules, management of inventory and tracking of rented items to ensure accurate returns, creation and maintenance of lighting plots and running paperwork, management of lighting materials archives, communication of lighting requests to crew and staff, and other industry-standard responsibilities. The internship runs May 16 - August 3 and comes with a stipend of $350/week. A valid driver's license is necessary.

A props internship will involve assisting the scenic and props coordinator with cleaning and building props; cleaning and maintaining the workspace; researching for props and scenic details, locally and on the Internet; shopping for show and rehearsal props; scenic painting as needed; note-taking during onstage rehearsals and production meetings; archival paperwork as needed; general errands for scenic and props coordinators. A valid driver's license is necessary. The stipend is $350/week. The internship runs May 16 - August 3.

A scenic painting internship will involve painting and carving scenery as needed; providing paint samples; shopping for general supplies; cleaning and maintaining the workplace; painting and dressing props as needed; communicating artistic requests to props crew; research for scenic and props details, locally and on the Internet; note-taking during onstage rehearsals and production meetings; archival paperwork as needed; and general errands for scenic and props coordinators. The internship runs May 16 - August 13 and comes with a stipend of $350/week.

Other available internships include administration, company management, directing, hair and makeup, marketing, patron engagement, public relations, and stage management.

All interns are responsible for their own housing. Reliable transportation is required. Applications will close at 11:59pm on January 9. All applications should include a cover letter, resume, and contact information for at least three references. The dates listed above are subject to change.
