Europalco Obtains ISO 45001 Certification, Reinforcing Its Commitment To Workplace Safety

Europalco, the largest provider of solutions for events and shows in Southern Europe, has obtained ISO 45001 certification, reinforcing its commitment to occupational health, safety, and employee well-being. The certification strengthens the company’s integrated management model and supports its work with clients and partners that require high standards of compliance, operational reliability, and risk control in complex event environments.

The ISO 45001 standard, established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), sets out the requirements for an occupational health and safety management system. Its purpose is to help organizations provide safe and healthy working conditions, prevent work-related injuries and health issues, and improve health and safety performance over time.

For Europalco, the certification reflects a structured, company-wide commitment to protecting people in an industry defined by technical complexity, demanding schedules, and high operational standards. The company sees health, safety, and well-being as strategic priorities with a direct impact on talent retention, operational continuity, and long-term business performance.

To obtain the certification, Europalco carried out a structured action plan to strengthen its occupational health and safety management system. The process included a diagnostic audit and gap analysis to identify gaps between existing procedures and the standard’s requirements, a detailed assessment of sector-specific risks such as complex rigging operations, stage structure assembly, working at height, heavy lifting, and electrical hazards, and reinforced employee training focused on safe practices and a stronger preventive mindset. The company also strengthened investment in personal and collective protective equipment, created direct consultation channels for technical teams to participate in hazard identification, and conducted internal audits ahead of the final certification process.

This work was developed in alignment with Europalco’s existing management framework, integrating occupational health and safety with ISO 9001 for quality and ISO 20121 for sustainable event management. Through this integrated system, the company brings together technical rigor, protection of people, and responsible event delivery under a single approach to continuous improvement.

The certification also has practical implications across Europalco’s ecosystem. For clients, it provides greater assurance around compliance, technical reliability, continuity, and reputational risk mitigation. For suppliers and partners, it supports clearer safety protocols and more standardized working processes. For employees, it contributes to a safer workplace, stronger skills development, and a greater sense of support and recognition.

In a sector shaped by fast turnarounds and physically demanding operations, Europalco considers employee well-being a key factor in reducing burnout, supporting motivation, and retaining skilled professionals. At the same time, strong safety practices help reduce absenteeism, workplace accidents, insurance-related costs, and potential legal exposure.

Europalco says the certification reflects a shared effort across the organization. Teams are encouraged to contribute to daily improvements, while on-site supervision, continuous training through Europalco Academy, and consultation channels designed to capture field feedback help ensure that safety remains part of day-to-day operations. The company also supports employees through ShowCare, a program that includes assistance in areas such as nutrition, legal advice, financial guidance, and health insurance.

“Achieving ISO 45001 represents an important step in reinforcing our commitment to the people who make our work possible every day,” said Pedro Magalhães, CEO of Europalco. “In our industry, health and safety are not separate from performance. They are essential to how we operate, how we support our teams, and how we deliver reliable solutions to our clients.”

With ISO 9001, ISO 20121, and now ISO 45001, Europalco continues to consolidate an integrated management system built around quality, safety, and sustainability. The company’s next steps include further aligning the three standards across all stages of operations, continuing to review policies and processes, investing in efficient technology, and strengthening training for both teams and partners as the business grows.
