NEW YORK, NY — Studio RRD, the New York-based lighting design and production studio, today announced the opening of a new retail and rental hub at its Union Square location, along with the launch of a professional Pre-Visualization Suite — marking a significant expansion of the resources available to New York’s theatre and live events lighting community.
The expansion builds on Studio RRD’s stewardship of Tribeca Lighting’s legacy of serving the New York theatre and arts community, continuing a tradition of keeping professional lighting resources accessible and local for designers, programmers, and producers across the city.
A New Home for Lighting Supplies and Rentals Downtown
Beginning Monday April 20th, Studio RRD’s Union Square location will open a fully stocked consumables counter, available for walk-in sales Monday through Friday, 11am–5pm, with earlier and later pick-up available by appointment. The location also serves as the designated hub for all pre-arranged rental pick-up and drop-off.
In addition to day-to-day sales and rentals, the space will feature a monthly rotating product showcase, giving visitors the opportunity to get hands-on with new and featured gear. Once a month, Studio RRD will host an open-door Demo Day — a relaxed, community gathering where anyone is welcome to explore a featured product or product line and connect with fellow lighting professionals.
State-of-the-Art Pre-Visualization Suite Now Open
Studio RRD has also opened a professional Pre-Visualization Suite at its Union Square location, purpose-built to serve the full spectrum of New York’s lighting community — from seasoned designers and programmers to emerging students and first-time clients.
The suite features a high-performance rendering workstation running Depence R4, alongside both EOS and grandMA consoles, providing an industry-leading toolkit in a single, centrally located facility. The space is available for half-day and full-day rental at rates designed to be accessible regardless of project scale — whether for a student’s first pre-vis session, a client preview ahead of a major event, or a programmer building a full touring show.
“The lighting community in New York is unlike anything else in the world. It’s built on mentorship, on shared knowledge, on showing up for each other. Tribeca Lighting was part of that fabric for decades. We don’t take that lightly. Everything we’re building at Union Square — the counter, the demo days, the pre-vis suite — it’s all in service of making sure this community continues to have a place to call home.”
— Rob Ross, Founder, Studio RRD
Celebration and Open House
Studio RRD will host a celebration marking the opening on Monday May 11th. The public is invited to tour the new space, meet the team, and experience the Pre-Visualization Suite firsthand.

Together, the two facilities give the New York lighting community unmatched local access — from last-minute consumable pick-ups in Manhattan to full production builds across the river.
