IATSE, The Broadway League, Disney Theatrical Reach Tentative Agreement Pending Ratification on Pink Contract

In a welcome bit of news, The Broadway League and Buena Vista Theatrical d/b/a/ Disney Theatrical and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees announced they have reached a tentative agreement for the "Pink Contract" on Thursday, pending ratification by the bargaining unit.

As several outlets reported yesterday, following an authorization vote on Wednesday, a potential strike was imminent, shutting down Broadway and touring shows as early as today.

Negotiations for a new contract were interrupted in 2020 by the COVID pandemic and the union has been operating on extensions since then.

The Pink Contract covers approximately 1,500 stagehands; wardrobe, hair, and makeup staff, and others who are employed by productions, often including out-of-town tryouts and national tours. Workers employed by theatre owners are on a separate contract.

The film and television industries are currently largely in a state of suspension thanks to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and another shutdown would have only added to the chaos.

In a joint statement, the producers and IATSE commented, "The respective parties will inform their members of the details of this agreement in the coming days."
