Meet the USITT26 Poster Design Contest Winner, Jordan Pincus!

Designer and USITT Member Jordan Pincus has been selected as the winner of the USITT26 Poster Design Contest, a creative highlight of the Annual Conference & Stage Expo. Each year, the contest invites Members to design a limited-edition collectible poster inspired by the host city and USITT’s tagline, "Powering Live Entertainment." For USITT26, artists were challenged to capture the spirit of Long Beach, CA.

Jordan’s connection to both theatre and visual art began early. Growing up just an hour outside of New York City, she was immersed in theatre from a young age. “Since I was four, I have been seeing Broadway shows and been fascinated by the productions,” she said.

Jordan was a performer for 15 years, honing skills in traditional art and graphic design on the side. Eventually, she combined her passions to study Scenic Design at Carnegie Mellon University, where she currently a senior. So when a friend shared the USITT Poster Design Contest opportunity, she didn’t hesitate. “If you know me, you know I can never pass up a chance to make a poster,” she said. “It was a no-brainer to enter.”

As a USITT Member, Jordan feels deeply connected to the organization’s mission. “As a Member, it’s very special to me to be connected to the community that inspired me from such a young age.”

For her winning design, Jordan drew inspiration from the warmth and visual character of Southern California — especially during these colder winter months. “I was inspired by the warmth of California and the beach,” she shared. Studying aerial views of Long Beach, she identified distinctive buildings and silhouettes that helped bring theme and specificity to the art and its location.

In addition to having her design featured at USITT26 and sold in the USITT Bookstore, Jordan selected the Rigging Safety Fund to receive part of the poster sales. “One of my greatest passions is supporting and funding the arts in public schools,” she said. “I am so thrilled to get to contribute to that.”

Jordan is especially excited about the opportunity to connect with fellow artists and professionals at the Conference. “I’m excited for the opportunity to meet new people, especially those who share my love of both theatre and graphic design,” she said. “It’s an honor to have my work featured among professionals I admire.”

When asked why supporting live entertainment matters now more than ever, Jordan emphasized its power to bring people together. “Live entertainment is a special, shared experience,” she said. “I think that is something that needs to be preserved in the current world we’re living in.”

Attendees can view the official reveal of Jordan’s poster and purchase a copy at the USITT Bookstore during USITT26 in Long Beach. The poster is a limited-edition collectible, exclusive to USITT26.
