Are you someone who looks out for the wellbeing and safety of your colleagues? Do you strive for ways to improve mental health in the entertainment industry? Do you want to know effective, safe, evidence based ways to assist someone during a mental health crisis?
This fall, BTS has three opportunities for you to learn Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), which provides the skills and confidence to recognize when someone may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge, offer initial support, and help connect them with appropriate resources. Upcoming classes are scheduled for September 24 from 12-6pm ET, October 18 from 1-7pm ET and November 15 from 1-7pm ET.
Participants complete a two-hour self-paced online component before attending the six-hour live, virtual interactive class. Upon successful completion, participants receive a three-year Mental Health First Aid certificate. MHFA trainers with Behind the Scenes are working entertainment technology professionals, giving the training a unique perspective on mental health in the industry as well as effective ways to implement the skills learned in the course.
One attendee commented, “With all that’s happened in the last few years, people have been experiencing high levels of stress in our workplaces. This will be a helpful tool to access if anyone is in need of someone to listen without judgement.”
For eligible IATSE members and individuals working under IATSE agreements, the cost of the training may be reimbursable through the IATSE Training Trust Fund (TTF) upon proof of successful completion. Limited full and partial scholarships are also available through Behind the Scenes for individuals who are not eligible for TTF reimbursement.
Registration is now open for fall virtual classes at btshelp.org/mhfa. Space is limited and registration closes three days before each class to allow participants time to complete the required pre-work. Don’t wait, become a MHFA First Aider this fall!
