Elation Rebel Line 16 At X Games League Music Festival

As the inaugural MoonPay X Games League (XGL) launched its first summer season in Sacramento, California, with nightly concerts, OSA International showcased one of the industry’s newest lighting tools, deploying newly acquired Elation Rebel Line 16 linear tilt bars on the event’s largest music production to date. Seeking a linear bar capable of shaping striking chevrons while delivering visual impact, Lighting Designer Anthony Padilla found a fixture that not only gave designers a dynamic new creative tool but also impressed with its technician-friendly design.

A full-service production company with more than 40 years of experience, OSA International invested in 26 Rebel Line 16 fixtures. The company, an early adopter of the fixture, selected the IP55-rated linear tilt bars to serve not only the growing X Games music production but also its diverse portfolio of corporate events, festivals, concert touring, and special events.

Held June 26-28 at Heart Health Park in Sacramento, the inaugural XGL Summer event marked the debut of a new global, team-based X Games format. As competition concluded each day, the venue transformed into a large-scale music festival featuring headlining performances by Kaskade, Subtronics, and Mustard. OSA International, which has supported X Games productions for more than a decade, has been involved with the event’s expanding music component since 2024.

Designing Around the X
Production Lighting Designer Anthony Padilla designed a striking stage centered around a massive LED video "X," flanked by chevron-shaped arrays of Rebel Line 16 fixtures mounted on raked truss to create a dramatic three-dimensional look. Alternating with each Rebel Line fixture were high-powered strobes.

“There were areas that needed more visual action, so I created these arrows stage right and stage left to accentuate the X and visually draw you in,” Padilla said. “I needed a linear bar to shape those chevrons and add a dramatic line of pixels, something fun for the lighting designers to play with.”

OSA is in the process of building up its IP inventory and looked at various IP-rated linear fixtures. “We started looking at gear we could use on X Games that would also satisfy our day-to-day corporate and festival work. We wanted something that would last us and be a true dual-purpose fixture, something you could put on a festival stage but also use when there are cameras where color rendering matters.”

More Than a Linear Bar
Powered by high-output 60W RGBL LEDs, the Rebel Line 16 delivers more than 25,000 lumens of output through a seamless linear lens that produces a continuous beam with no visible breaks. A fast 4°-35° zoom, 210° tilt, and integrated SparkX array of 5W cool-white LEDs provide designers with everything from wide washes and pixel effects to crisp aerial looks, while its IP55 rating makes it well suited for outdoor productions.

Padilla found the fixture’s versatility valuable throughout the event, including an unexpected role during the broadcast medal ceremonies. “There was a moment right before the music started when the medals ceremony was broadcast,” he explained. “I put eight Rebel Line 16s across the downstage edge, tilted them up, dialed in a quick white, opened the zoom wide, and used them for face light. They worked excellently. The light looked beautiful on people's skin, and that really proved they could be a true multi-purpose fixture.”

Across the music performances, the Rebel Line fixtures became an integral part of the stage architecture, giving visiting artist lighting designers a flexible system they could easily incorporate into their own programming.

“I had 24 Rebel Line fixtures to play with, so they became much more than linear bars,” said Padilla, who handled lighting for artists who did not have their own on-site crew. “I could use them for uplight, curtains of light, washes, bursts, and pixel effects. Some of my favorite looks came from shutting everything else off—the video, the other lighting—and leaving only the Rebel Lines. They created these huge curtains and pockets of light through the haze. The look was great. Then, boom, you bring the content back on the X.”

Built with Production In Mind
Padilla also praised the fixture’s build and attention to detail. “Another thing that impressed me was the build quality,” he said. “There are details like the retracting zoom, locking positions, sliding Omega brackets, pixel flips, and sun protection that all make a difference when you’re prepping a show. We weren't fighting the fixture—it was clearly designed with technicians in mind. It's a fun fixture, it's a powerful fixture, and I think as more designers use it, they’ll discover even more of what it can do.

A Versatile Investment
For OSA International, the purchase represents a strategic investment in fixtures that can support a broad range of productions. “We were looking to replace some aging LED battens and wanted an outdoor-rated fixture that offered more versatility,” said Mark Fetto, Vice President of Lighting at OSA International. “The other linear fixtures we saw out there we weren’t excited about, but the Rebel Line 16 immediately stood out with its brightness, split 2x8-pixel design, zoom, and tilting capabilities.
