The most famous holiday tradition in sports television made its annual return to the FOX Studios Lot this past December. In an impressive technical and creative feat, MagicSnow and FOX Sports once again transformed the iconic Fox Studio Lot into a real-life winter wonderland for the 'FOX NFL Sunday' live broadcast on December 21.
The snow-filled set has been a staple of the FOX Sports broadcast ever since the NFL launched Christmas games in 2020. Working in close partnership with Emmy Award–winning Art Director Johnny Chou, MagicSnow executes a real snow landscape that blurs the line between a Hollywood backlot and a real-life winter wonderland. Consistently ranking among the highest-rated broadcasts of the NFL season, the snow-filled set provides a unique playground for hosts Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan, and Rob Gronkowski to bring a high-energy, authentic “snow day” atmosphere to viewers.
A High-Tech Holiday Broadcast
To realize Chou’s creative vision, the MagicSnow team deployed three industrial-scale snowmakers, working around the clock to produce more than 100 tons of real, fine powder snow on set. The installation featured a football field completely blanketed in real snow, complete with waist-high snow berms designed to integrate seamlessly with the studio’s expansive LED walls.
To complete the effect, MagicSnow filled the air with snowfall effects featuring its newly launched MagicSnow Formula, creating the perfect winter atmosphere in Los Angeles.
“Bringing snow to FOX NFL Sunday always feels like a Christmas homecoming,” says Adam Williams, President of MagicSnow. “Collaborating with Johnny Chou and the FOX Sports team to deliver this level of magic to millions of viewers is the perfect way to cap off our 2025 season. It remains one of our most technically rewarding projects and partnerships, year after year.”
Real Snow Means a Greener "White Christmas"
A key factor in the production’s annual return was MagicSnow’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Unlike traditional film industry "snow" products, which often create waste, MagicSnow uses only pure water to create its snow effects. By New Year’s Day, the 100 tons of snow had naturally melted into pure water, providing eco-friendly irrigation for the FOX Studio lot.
“The goal was a zero-footprint spectacle,” added Williams. “We provide the visual impact of a snowstorm with the environmental impact of a light rainstorm. It’s the future of how large-scale special effects should operate.”
Reliable Magic
This successful multi-year partnership with FOX Sports and the FOX Studio Lot solidifies MagicSnow as the premier choice for world-class live broadcasts, theme parks, film sets, and global live events that require scale, safety, and undeniable magic.
