The Equitable Workforce Initiative (EWI), the diversity program for rental companies announced at NAB in April, is now accepting applications. The initiative, sponsored by Netflix as part of its Fund for Creative Equity, focuses on improving equity and diversity in the industry by developing well-trained workers from underrepresented communities and increasing representation over time within rental company management.

EWI program coordinator Andrew J Rodriguez says, "It was initiatives and fellowships like EWI that taught this young boy from the Bronx the tools needed to live his dreams out loud. I'm thrilled to be a part of providing that same access and opportunity to people from similar backgrounds and supporting the underserved in their attempts at being dream chasers."

EWI training will provide a unique educational experience. Trainees employed by rental companies will gain a working knowledge of a wide range of technology, including camera equipment, wireless technology, digital imaging technology, and camera optics. Those hired by lighting and grip companies will gain a solid understanding of the vast array of lighting and grip equipment, as well as how it is safely used, stored, handled, cleaned, inspected, and tested. PERG members who hire EWI candidates will receive grants to cover salary costs for the first six months of employment.
