The USITT Board of Directors met in Indianapolis in August, 2023. The two-day commitment provided time for "think-tank sessions" to develop a guiding plan for the organization in the current and coming years. 

At the October 2023 Board meeting, the USITT Board Goal Action for fiscal year 2024 was presented and unanimously accepted for the Institute.  

The action reads: Promote and increase the visibility and the year-round value of the Institute membership in the performing arts and entertainment industry.

This charge is the guide that is applied to activities, programs, and projects for the Institute including the Board of Directors, national office staff, sections, chapters, committees, and membership.

The October Board meeting also brought an agenda item regarding the USITT vision statement. A new vision statement was presented for approval. The current statement as posted was used as the base and consolidated. It was unanimously approved to the following:

USITT will be the prominent leader of theatre and entertainment design, management, technology, and history through out conferences, educational initiatives, exhibitions, awards , publications, and research, and be the leading advocate for safe, effective, inclusive, and ethical practices.
