USITT Members: We Want to Feature You!

November 14, 2019

Here at USITT, our members are our backbone. Without the support of each and every one of our members, from organizations to individuals, we couldn’t exist in our current capacity.

In the same vein, we’d like to begin sharing more about our members by posting on our social media channels in order to showcase who our members are and what kinds of exciting projects they might be working on. This includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

That’s where our members themselves come in. We need your help to accomplish this task by submitting information about yourself (nothing that we’d ever use inappropriately) that we can share with our social media followers and the entire USITT membership as a whole. Both USITT National members and USITT Sectional members qualify for this campaign.

Here are a few topics that we’re looking for:

Monday Motivation Quotes

“Motivation Monday” quotes aren’t a new idea by any stretch, but they are relatable and effective and can give whoever reads one the right amount of encouragement to carry throughout the day.

These quotes can focus on just about anything but should be original and not taken verbatim from anywhere. They can be theatre-related, job-related, life-related, or anything in between — just as long as they’re motivational!

Once a quote is received from a USITT member and is approved, a graphic will be made to be posted on USITT’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages.

To submit:

  • Please send the quote to USITT Social Media Specialist, David Armelino, by clicking here, with “USITT Monday Motivation quote” at the top of the email.
  • Please include your name, where you work, your job title, and your USITT membership type.

If selected, you will be asked via email to provide:

  • high-resolution photo of yourself to be included in the graphic. A standard headshot or a photo working in the field will be perfect.

Tech Tip Tuesday

If you have a helpful tip or unique idea that has to do technical theatre, don't hesitate to share it with the rest of the USITT membership! Topics for these tips include disciplines such as stage rigging, lighting design, sound design, costuming, scenic art and design, stage management, and more.

Once a tip or idea is received from a USITT member and is approved, a graphic will be made to be posted on USITT’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages.

Note: This category can come from USITT individual and organizational members.

To submit:

  • Please send your description to USITT Social Media Specialist, David Armelino, by clicking here, with “USITT Tech Tip Tuesday” at the top of the email.
  • Please include your name, where you work, your job title, and your USITT membership type.

If selected, you will be asked via email to provide:

  • A high-resolution photo of yourself to be included in the graphic. A standard headshot or a photo working in the field will be perfect.

USITT Success Stories

USITT’s 60th anniversary is in 2020, and we plan on celebrating Texas-style at USITT20 in Houston next April. In the meantime, we’d like to hear from our members on the kinds of positive experiences they’ve had with us during our first 60 years, and what the Institute means to them.

This topic can involve any USITT event, not just the annual Conference and Stage Expo. If you’ve ever made a noteworthy connection with someone through one of our events, or learned something valuable at one of our workshops, or secured a new job, we’d love to hear about it! Those are just a few examples, so feel free to expand on this, as well.

Similar to the “Monday Motivation” quotes, once we receive a quote from a USITT member and it is approved, we’ll then make a graphic that will be posted on USITT’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages.

Note: This category can come from USITT individual and organizational members.

To submit:

  • Please send your description to USITT Social Media Specialist, David Armelino, by clicking here, with “USITT Success Stories” at the top of the email.
  • Please include your name, where you work, your job title, and your USITT membership type.

If selected, you will be asked via email to provide:

  • A high-resolution photo of yourself to be included in the graphic. A standard headshot or a photo working in the field will be perfect.

USITT Member Spotlight

Last, but certainly not least, are membership spotlights that will be posted exclusively on social media. Each month through our Sightlines Newsletter, we publish a Q&A with USITT members touching on topics such as the importance of mentorship, awards they’ve recently won, etc.

For this topic, however, we’re looking to show off the projects that our members are currently working on or have recently finished in fields relating to the theatre and live entertainment industry. Projects can include but are not limited to costume design and construction, scenic design and construction, sound design, lighting design, rigging projects, stage management projects, digital media designs, and more.

Like the other options above, once a submission for this topic is received and approved, it will be posted to USITT’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages shortly thereafter.

Note: This category is meant for individual members only.

To submit:

  • Please send your description to USITT Social Media Specialist, David Armelino, by clicking here, with “USITT Member Spotlight” at the top of the email.
  • Please include your name, where you work, your job title, and your USITT membership type.

If selected, you will be asked via email to provide:

  • Up to 10 high-resolution photos of the project in question, as well as a description of the project in your own words and what the project is for — no more than 200 words.
    • Video of the project is also encouraged — no less than 720p resolution.
  • A high-resolution photo of yourself to be included in the graphic. A standard headshot or a photo working in the field will be perfect.

We hope you’ll choose to submit to one of these topics and encourage others to submit, as well. We can’t wait to learn more about our members through this initiative and to help promote all of the exciting things they’re working on!

If you have an idea that isn’t on this list, feel free to submit it, as well, to David Armelino by clicking here.
