Summary

The Costume Craftsperson & Shop Assistant is responsible for enhancing visual appearance of built costumes through fabric manipulation and creating authentic craft items and costume accessories while also supporting the design build and remount of show needs in the Costume Shop for all Sight and Sound Theatre Productions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Work in partnership with Costume Deign to artistically apply finishes to completed garments to achieve a realist look, including distressing or special effects, using dyes, stains, paints, or other mediums.
- Frequently utilize creative tools, such as power tools, (drill, staple gun, grinder) paints, adhesives, dyes, and stains, epoxy lates, and plastic compounds for fabric and leather manipulation.
- Work with jewelry findings, beading or embellishments, by creating molded emblems and armor pieces, building costume jewelry and crowns, and enhancing purchased pieces to adapt them for stage.
- Assist the Lead Seamstress in preparation for all show openings and closings as well as serve as the point of contact for the rebuild team when the Lead is away from the Costume Shop.

Requirements

Prerequisites:

- Highly creative skillset and experience needed, having broad experience with a wide array of materials, mediums, techniques, and processes with a hunger to learn and adapt present skillset.
- Excellent time management and successful problem-solving skills are necessary, with a mindfulness of scope and cost of individual projects.
- Detail oriented, organized, and able to work in a fast-moving environment while achieving high quality work, with the ability to shift priorities as needed.
- Resourceful and able to follow instructions for satisfactory end results, with a proven ability to work effectively within a highly creative and collaborative team environment.
- Desire to learn all aspects of the costume build process, possessing the flexibility to step into multiple roles as needed, and interested in establishing a growth-oriented career path with potential for leadership succession.

Education and / or Experience: Minimum Bachelor's degree from four-year school and / or professional experience as a costumer or stitcher with a background in textile manipulation.

- Help to support during seasonal activities, to include fittings and alterations, dress rehearsals, live events, and show openings with general tasks such as cutting and sewing to accomplish all timeline goals.
- Help to cut, overlock, and alter costumes pieces including hats and accessories as needed.
