- Stitchers will function as an integral part of the films wardrobe team and will apply their hands-on expertise to build historical costumes for film projects. They will bring specific job experience in the specialized areas of millinery work, painting/Dying, distressing and textile manipulation and crafts work. - Stitchers may have the opportunity to bring their specialized skills to the production through millinery, textile manipulation and craft work. **This is a short-term employment opportunity, expected to last 6 - 8 months.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the First Hand with cutting, stitching, and alterations of assigned costume elements for Sight & Sound Films productions.
- Sew assigned costume pieces by hand or machine and complete hand and finish work as assigned.
- Assist pulling, inventorying, maintenance, and transportation of costumes; as well as the maintenance and laundry of raw materials and costumes.
- Support team with rental costume needs as assigned.
- Work with the team in preparation for shoot days and help organize on set wardrobe needs as assigned by Wardrobe Coordinator.
- Help to complete documentation within database and organizational tasks for garment inventory as needed.
Prerequisites:
- Strong experience in building historical costumes, fashion garments or theater costumes, with high attention to detail.
- Experience with domestic and industrial sewing machines and sergers.
- Knowledgeable in a variety of hand and machine sewing techniques.
- Interest and experience in costume crafts including dying, distressing, and millinery
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide variety of coworkers at different levels of skill and knowledge
- Able to understand and follow written and verbal directions.
- Able to work long hours during heavy build and tech periods, with periodic required availability nights, weekends, and the occasional holiday.
