The Department of Theatre and Dance at Hillsdale College invites applications for a full-time Technical Director and Scenic Designer, beginning August 2024. The Technical Director/Scenic Designer will design and oversee construction of sets for four theatre productions and provide support for one dance concert per academic year, plus occasional, smaller projects.
Responsibilities:
• Scenic Design: Develop set designs for departmental productions.
• Technical Direction: Ensure the completion of designs on pace with the production calendar while leading and assisting student crews.
• Instruction: Provide practical instruction and guidance to theatre crews to develop and enhance their skills.
• Safety: Ensure safety protocols are followed during scenic construction and production.
• Collaboration: Work closely with directors and designers to facilitate construction and completion of scenic elements within production timelines and standards.
Qualifications:
• MFA in Technical Direction, Scenic Design, or equivalent professional experience
• Demonstrated expertise in technical direction and/or scenic design
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
